Personal Fitness Merit Badge

Since we are planning to be outside, Mr. Hanson is planning to offer for any boys that are interested to start the Personal Fitness Merit Badge.  Starting the merit badge would involve recording performance on a mile run, sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups and flexibility.  Boys will then need to record exercise, and measure improvements over multiple weeks.  Personal Fitness is an Eagle required merit badge.

This is likely the only multi-week session Mr. Hanson will start this year.

Annual Rechartering Reminder

posted Oct 5, 2015, 9:34 AM by Robb Marhula

It is that time of year again when we are required to complete a rechartering of our Troop. This involves the following:

· Determine who is planning to remain active

· Determine which adult leaders are trained

· Review youth protection training

· Collection of Annual Dues

· Offer Purchase of Boy’s Life Subscription

The annual cost this year will remain the same as last year at $35 for the year. If you would like an annual subscription to the Boys Life magazine there is an additional cost of $12. This annual cost is minimal when you consider the skills, values and memories that scouting provides to your son. The cost covers registration fees with the Boy Scouts of America for your son and the rest helps to cover registering our leaders and limited operating expenses.

Dues can be paid in three ways:

1. Cash

2. Check payable to Troop 290

3. Use of Camp Funds

Please bring your payment to one of the upcoming troop meetings. You may also mail your payment to Robb Marhula at 15247 Dundee Avenue, Apple Valley, MN 55124. Please email me at troop290activities@gmail.com if you plan to mail your check to my address or if you are planning on using camp funds. If it turns out that there are not sufficient camp funds in your son’s account we will let you know.

If for some reason your son does not wish to continue in scouting please email me and let me know that as well. We need to account for those that are registering again as well as those that are not. We know that certain times of the year are busy for some scouts with a variety of activities so there may be periods where we do not see them attending scout activities or events. We do not want to assume that your scout is not coming back and not register him, however each scout is required to be considered active and pay the annual dues in order to be included as part of the annual recharter. Your email and/or dues payment would help us determine which scouts plan to remain active for the upcoming year.

If you have any questions please feel free to let me know at troop290activities@gmail.com or call my mobile number at 612-384-6750.

Rum River 2015 - October 23-25

posted Oct 5, 2015, 9:32 AM by Robb Marhula

Once again we will be heading to Rum River in Ramsey for our annual fall camp out. The weekend will be full of great activities that are capped off by our Dutch oven cooking contest. New scouts will be able to spend some time doing orienteering activities and some additional rank advancement opportunities. Historically, this has also been a big football weekend. Many scouts participate at varying times during the day... Some play all day.

Head to the camping page for sign up and more information.

Northern Tier 2015

posted Jun 30, 2015, 6:36 AM by Troop 290 MN   [ updated Jun 30, 2015, 6:42 AM ]

We're back!  The 2015 NTier crew is back from their week of high adventure in the Boundary Waters.  Jake, Leo, Bryce, Christian, and Noah all had a great time with Mr. St. Clair, Mr. Marhula, Mr. Drehmel, and of course our interpreter, Cody.  The nine of us paddled about 50 miles through a series of lakes across the BWCA.  Each of us carried either a canoe or a 50+ lbs trail pack across a whole bunch of portages.  Some of the portages were about 3/4 of a mile long through mud and over sheer rock faces.  Do you think it sounded like a challenge?  It was, but it was well worth it.

Be sure to check out the pictures and videos of the trip in the media library, or click here.

Hol-ry!

Thank you to everybody who contributed to Friends of Scouting. Because of the very generous donations, we made our goal and will be receiving free merit badges for yet another year. We helped ensure that Scouting remains a strong organization with great camps, leadership training and programs.

Our goal was $5800. We have reached $5849.

Thank you to everybody who responded and to Ameriprise, Boston Scientific, Ecolab, Toro, and U.S. Bancorp for matching contributions.
